NEWS IN ENGLISH:

If Chamonix was the site of the Skyrunning world series finale last summer, this year, due to its number of top-notch athletes, the finale in Limone could be compared to an Olympic event. Lake Garda is the spectacular setting of the double finale of the world series, which awarded the titles in the Vertical Kilometer event tonight. The worthy winners are Kilian Jornet and Laura Orguè.

The Catalan of Team Salomon won the race in 37’27”. Urban Zemmer came in second at 38', Marco Moletto come in third at 38'19", Thorbjorn Ludvigsen came in fourth at 38’34”, and Marco Maguet came in fifth at 39’16”.

Team Adidas' transalpine athlete Christel Dewalle won the race and broke the record with a finish time of 44’51”. Coming in second and winning the 2014 was Laura Orguè of Spain at 46’51”, while the bronze medal went to Antonella Confortola at 48’16”. Francesca Rossi and Stephanie Jimenez came in fifth and sixth, respectively.

A new record was set for the number of participants in this third Vertical of Mughéra: 233 skyrunners from 21 countries. The spectacular, technical ascent with a lake view that decreed the world's top skyrunners began with a first start at 6:30 p.m. and a second start one hour later for the elite group. With headlamps switched on and hearts pounding from beginning to end, the heroic athletes faced an elevation of almost 1,100 meters along the 3 km course that reached the 1180 meter ASL to Mughéra Peak. They had no ski poles and could only rely on the strength of their muscular legs in their attempt to beat the records of the course that belonged to the 2013 world champions Urban Zemmer (37’11”) and Laura Orguè (46’10”).

The race started with Zemmer leading the group of the top athletes in the part of the course passing through town. When the ascent became steeper, Kilian Jornet broke away from the pack to take the lead. Behind him was Zemmer from Team la Sportiva, Marco Moletto from Piemonte, and the European mountain running champion Bernard Dematteis.

Kilian Jornet therefore makes Skyrunning history with this historical triple win. He was the only athlete able to win three titles in the same season and in the history of this sport. What's more, in 2014 he also won three gold medals at Chamonix in the marathon, vertical and combined events.  If you don't count the ultra transalpine event, where he could not participate because he doesn't have the gift of ubiquity, Jornet has simply won everything there was to win.

Also celebrating tonight is Team Salomon, the first team in the history of Skyrunning to dominate the men's and women's championship.
